Public Beach Protection
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced in December 2018 that four Illinois communities will be the recipient of a very competitive USACE pilot program for the beneficial use of dredged materials, including Evanston, Glencoe, Lake Bluff and North Chicago.
Under the pilot program, the materials dredged from Waukegan Harbor will be used to provide public beach protection to the four Illinois coastal communities.
Public Input
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District posted a draft feasibility report, “Public Beach Protection in Four Illinois Coastal Communities Beneficial Use of Dredged Material Pilot Project,” for a 30-day public review period that will end on August 31, 2020.
