Shawn Iles

Shawn is a first term Council member. He serves on the Human Services, Housing and Community Development, and the Social Services Committees. In addition to serving on Council, Shawn has been the Overnight Shelter Director for Interfaith Action of Evanston since 2020. In his work with Interfaith Action, he helps the unhoused and the food insecure.
Shawn moved to Evanston with his wife Sarah and their four children in 2011 and has since been deeply involved in the community. He has a Masters of Library and Information Science and served three terms on the Evanston Public Library Board of Trustees, including two years as Board President. He was the Co-President of the Lincoln School PTA from 2017-19. Shawn is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Evanston and served as President in 2023-24. He was one of the organizers of the Produce mobile for over a decade and has coached numerous AYSO teams. Shawn is a graduate of both Leadership Evanston and the Community Police Academy.
On City Council, Shawn focuses on issues such as affordability, housing, sustainability, economic development, and fiscal responsibility. He supports transit adjacent development and lakefront preservation. His approach to public service is characterized by responsiveness, collaboration, and a deep commitment to the well-being of all Evanston residents
