Fencing

Fencing is an exciting sport full of action and requires patience, concentration, discipline and self-awareness. It's rewards are self-confidence, self-control and emotional strength that leads to a healthier lifestyle.

Our fencing classes are offered for beginning through advanced levels. Private lessons are also available (see below).

Fencing Equipment & Requirements

  • Chandler-Newberger will provide jackets, masks and weapons.
  • We require participants to purchase a glove and underarm protector, as these are personal items. These items should be purchased prior to your first class or camp.  They are not available for purchase from the instructor.
  • Fencers wear the glove on their dominate hand, this is the same hand they use to hold their weapon.  The underarm protector is worn under the fencing jacket. A sizing chart for both items is below.

  • For more information on fencing gear, including an explanation of what is needed and why, please visit fencing.net.
  • We also require participants to be a non-competitive member of the United States Fencing Association. You can register for that membership at United States Fencing Association membership. Please bring your membership information with you to your first class.
  • If your child has any special accommodations to allow them to fully participate (medication, behavior management or physical assistance) you should reached out to the  Inclusion Program Coordinator at 847-424-5496 to discuss these accommodations.

Beginning Fencing Classes

Competition Prep Classes

Our new Competition Prep Class will introduce those with experience to the rules and structures of competition. Compete against classmates, perfect four attacks and work on defense. For our current class schedule, please see Parks & Recreation Program Guide and registration 

Private Lessons

Private lessons with our fencing coach are available.

Private Lesson for 1: $44 for 45 minutes
Private Lesson for 4: $230 for 45 minutes
