D65 School Sports Programs

School-based sports for 4th and 5th grade students

The City of Evanston, in partnership with Evanston/Skokie School District 65, is excited to announce a new initiative to increase elementary children's access to youth athletics programming. The collaboration will focus on providing seasonal, school-based sports for fourth through fifth-grade students in District 65.

The City’s Program Guide is available online and includes program information. All District 65 students in fourth through fifth-grade, regardless of their residency within Evanston, are eligible to participate. For more information about the Evanston sports leagues/programs, contact Eric Eichholz.

Note: See the program guide for 1st through 3rd grade sport programming.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

Parent/guardian volunteer coaches are needed for all City of Evanston sports leagues. All coaches serve in a volunteer capacity and do not receive compensation. Coaches will choose their practice day/time based on what works for their schedule and can make schedule requests for games to help accommodate their schedule. The City will book the facilities needed with D65, coaches will just need to request their practice time through their school principal. D65 schools will provide their teams with equipment for practices; the City will provide all equipment needed for the games. All coaches will be required to complete a free fingerprint background check. Instructions on how to complete the background check will be emailed out to coaches prior to the season starting. Coaches will be given a coach deck to help guide practices. All coaches serve in a volunteer capacity and do not receive compensation.  Coaches may indicate they are willing to volunteer to coach when registering their child for a league or by emailing Eric.

Thank you to all our coaches who help make the leagues a success!

Registration

All registrations will be processed through the City of Evanston Parks and Recreation Department. Parents are required to register either online or in person at one of our Centers; unfortunately, we cannot accept registrations over the phone. Additionally, a waiver and code of conduct must be signed for each participant, which necessitates caregivers to complete this process themselves and not over the phone.

Register by the school the child attends. If a child attends Dawes, they should register under the Dawes team. Each school has their own individual code for each sport.

Athletic Handbook

The purpose of this handbook is to relay important rules and guidelines to students and families around sportsmanship, health and safety, and conduct and performance as they relate to athletic activities and academic integrity.
