Victim Services
Background
In 1976, the Evanston Police Department was one of the first police agencies in Illinois to establish a Victim Witness Advocacy Unit. From the start, the dedicated staff has assisted victims of all crimes using trauma-informed responses. In 2018, the unit moved to the Health and Human Services Department. This change connected the unit to broader social and human services for a holistic approach and allowed integration with existing social service programs. The unit’s staff help facilitate many services to the community and are on call twenty-four hours a day.
Our team is committed to ensuring victims feel informed, empowered, and supported throughout difficult times.
