Evanston Foreign Fire Tax Board

Purpose

The funds received by the City pursuant to the levy of the Foreign Fire Insurance Company tax shall be set apart and shall be appropriated annually by the City Council of the City to the Fire Department Foreign Fire Tax Board. The Treasurer of the Board shall receive funds appropriated by the City, and shall pay out money and or otherwise make expenditures upon order of the Board. Any expenditure made by the Board shall be solely for the maintenance, use, and benefit of the Fire Department and its members.

Number of Members

The board shall consist of seven members. The members of the Board shall be designated as follows: Fire Chief, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and two (2) Trustees. Each member of the Board shall be an active, full-time member of the Evanston Fire Department. The Fire Chief shall be a trustee of the Board by virtue of rank.

Election

The members of the Board shall be elected by the active full-time members of the Evanston Fire Department. The members of this board shall annually elect officers. These officers shall be a chairman and a treasurer, although the Board may decide to elect a secretary and a vice chairman as well.

Term 

The members of the Board shall serve two-year terms and until their successors are elected. The initial terms of office of the members of the Board shall begin thirty days after the completion of the election and each member of the Board shall hold office during his term unless he no longer holds a qualifying position (is no longer an active full-time member of the Department) in the Department, in which case the respective term shall cease immediately and the member shall thereby be removed from the Board.

Meeting Date

The Board shall meet at least once quarterly.
