Records Bureau
The Records Bureau is the centralized location for all written police reports
The Responsibility of the Bureau consists of:
- Processing and maintaining all incident reports, arrest reports, traffic accidents, and traffic tickets
- Fingerprinting services (including but not limited to employment, criminal record checks, and Access and Review )
- Uniform Crime Reporting compliance
- Background checks for U- Visa , clearance letter and adoption
All traffic crash (accident) reports must be requested through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). A $5.00 fee applies to each report requested without a subpoena. This policy applies to all requests made in person, by mail, or online.

All incident reports made online or in-person will be made available subject to availability. You can receive them by electronic mail or U.S. Mail delivery once they are available. Please be advised a waiting period may apply. For a quicker response please provide your email address.
Report requests without a subpoena will require a Freedom of Information Act form to be completed online or at the City Clerk's Office located at 909 Davis Street, 2nd Floor.

Arrest/Investigation Report & Evidence Photo Fees
- Investigation Reports – $5.00 per report (includes DUI, Arrest, Incident, etc.).
- Evidence Technician Photos – $25.00 per case.
Ink fingerprint services are offered for a fee of $10 per card for all Evanston residents and $30 per card for Chicago residents and all other non-residents. Appointments can be made by calling the Records Bureau during normal business hours. The fingerprint card must be provided by the person being fingerprinted. For FBI cards, go to www.fbi.gov to print a copy. For Illinois fingerprint cards, contact the Illinois State Police at 815-740-5160. All fingerprint cards will be returned to the person being fingerprinted for submission to the appropriate agency.
The hours to request copies of traffic, accident, and incident reports in-person at 1454 Elmwood Ave. are Monday - Friday from 8:45 am to 4:15 pm (closed for lunch 12:30 - 1:00 pm).
