James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy
The “Moran Center” provides disinvested Evanston youth and their families with integrated legal, social work, and restorative justice services to improve their quality of life at home, at school, and within the Evanston community. To that end, the Moran Center:
- Represents and provides social work services to Evanston youth through the age of 26 involved in the criminal legal systems;
- Clears criminal records;
- Represents students with special needs to obtain the services they need to succeed in school, advocates for students facing exclusion from school, and equips caregivers with tools to advocate for their child’s educational rights;
- Stabilizes disinvested families by providing legal counsel, representation, and support in civil legal matters such as adoption/guardianship, family law, housing, public benefits, consumer protection, etc. through a school-based civil legal clinic model so children can stay on track in school and in our community;
- Builds a “restorative” community by implementing restorative practices and policies across the community.
