"Bike the Ridge" Returns for a Day of Car-Free Cycling Fun on September 27

Community members of all ages are invited to join in on Sunday, September 27, for the return of the City's beloved annual event, "Bike the Ridge", featuring cycling, community, and fun.

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Ridge Avenue will transform into a car-free zone, closed to vehicular traffic, allowing cyclists to pedal their way from Howard to Church Streets. Mayor Daniel Biss will kick off the free, non-competitive event for the final time as mayor, with the start at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Howard Street.

Participants are also invited to head to Ridgeville Park, located at 908 Seward St., to enjoy live music, delicious food trucks, and community spirit.

Event Guidelines

To ensure a safe event for everyone, the City is asking all participants to follow these safety guidelines:

• Children under the age of 18 are required to wear a bike helmet, as mandated by the City of Evanston ordinance.

• Bike the Ridge is exclusively for non-motorized bicycles; motorized bicycles and skateboards are not allowed.

• Non-bicyclists are encouraged to walk along Ridge Avenue sidewalks to support the bicyclists. Bicycles are not allowed on Ridge Avenue at any other time of the year.

Reminder for Ridge Avenue Residents

Residents along Ridge Avenue will not have access to their driveways between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 27. Those planning to use their car during that time should park on a side street before 8 a.m. that morning.
