City Launches C.A.R.E. Closet Fall Drive

To support local families and individuals as the colder season approaches, the City’s Crisis Alternative Response Evanston (C.A.R.E.) team invites community members to participate in the C.A.R.E. Closet Fall Drive, an initiative dedicated to collecting essential items.

The C.A.R.E. Closet provides clothing, hygiene items, meal support, transportation resources, and other essential supplies to Evanston residents experiencing hardships. Community members can help by donating new or gently used items, volunteering to sort donations, or assembling Hygiene Kits. 

Wishlist

  • Clothing: New or gently used clothing and other seasonal essentials to help community members prepare for colder weather.

  • Toiletries: Deodorant, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other personal hygiene essentials to help build C.A.R.E. Kits.

  • Nutrition Support: Restaurant gift cards and other meal-support items to assist individuals experiencing food insecurity or other challenges.

  • Transportation: Ventra cards and other transit cards to help individuals access work, appointments, services, and other essential destinations.

  • Storage: Luggage, laundry bags, and other storage items to help individuals safely carry and organize their belongings.

Kickoff Event

A C.A.R.E. Closet Fall Drive Kickoff event will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center, located at 1823 Church St. At the event, volunteers can help sort donated items and assemble Hygiene Kits for distribution.

In addition, collections will continue at local community centers from Sunday, September 20, through Friday, October 2. Throughout the drive, donations can be dropped off at the following City facilities during their regular business hours:

  • Levy Senior Center
  • Robert Crown Community Center
  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center
