Land Use Commission
Ensuring the public health, safety, comfort, morals, convenience, general welfare, and the objectives and policies of the Comprehensive General Plan.
The Land Use Commission is made up of volunteer community members who help provide for planning the future development and redevelopment of the Municipality as authorized by Division 12 of the Illinois Municipal Code, 65 ILCS 5/11-12-4 et seq, hear and decide major variations from provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, hear and decide appeals, hear and make recommendations to the Planning and Development Committee and City Council on applications for certain major variations, all special use permits including planned developments, and applications for map amendments and text amendments to the Zoning Ordinance.

Attend a meeting
Community members are welcome to attend Land Use Commission meetings. Meetings are typically held:
When: The 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the Month at 7:00 p.m. . Meetings may occassionally be rescheduled and special meetings may be added as needed.

Where: In-person meetings have resumed and are held at the Morton Civic Center in the James C. Lytle Council Chambers, 2100 Ridge Ave.
Provide public comment
Those wishing to provide public comment will have the opportunity to do so at every meeting via two possible means:
- Online written comment using the Commission's Public Comment Form.
- For in-person meetings, a sign-in sheet is provided outside of Council Chambers prior to the meeting or sign-up in advance through the Commission's Public Comment Form.
If you would like to speak during the meeting about a specific agenda item, individual members of the public are generally limited to no more than 3 minutes each per the Rules & Procedures (see page 9).
If you are the designated speaker on behalf of a group that would like to provide comment about a specific agenda item, please email the current staff liaison the name of the group, including legal recognition if applicable, the list of individuals or institutions being represented, and if applicable, presentation slides or other documentation for the Commission to consider no later than 5 business days before the meeting. Designated speakers on behalf of groups may be allowed additional speaking time, but no more than 10 minutes, at the discretion of the Chair (see page 12 of the Rules).
