Sidewalk Improvement Program

The City of Evanston's Sidewalk Improvement Program is a City-funded sidewalk replacement and gap infill program. Project locations follow an equitable priority system for rating sidewalk replacement needs. The Sidewalk Improvement Program guide outlines the phases of work for all sidewalks in Evanston.

Alley Improvements

The City of Evanston has 70 miles of alley.  Approximately 30 miles are unimproved and do not have a drainage system.  The City has a program to improve alleys in which the cost is shared 50/50 with the residents.

Alley Lighting Petition

Residents can petition for approval to have Alley Lighting through ComEd installed in their alley.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming

The bureau operates a Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program which places traffic circles, speed humps, speed bumps and other devices which reduce the speed and volume of traffic in the neighborhoods. Additional information on this program will be made available shortly.

Sign Requests
