To serve as a landscape contractor in the City of Evanston, you must register your business. Registration can be found here.

Relevant landscaping City code can be found on the Current Landscape Management Ordinances page, which your business should be familiar with when working in the City. Additionally, make sure to look at the Proposed Changes page to stay informed on how landscaping code may be changing.

To begin using more sustainable landscape management practices, check the City’s Natural Lawn Care Tips and look at the Landscaping Resources document provided as part of the Sustain Evanston sustainable business recognition program. As the City continues to work towards fulfilling its Climate Action and Resilience Plan goals, we ask that contractors move towards these sustainable actions:

• Phasing out fossil fuel-powered lawn equipment

• Eliminating synthetic pesticide and herbicide use

• Utilizing native plants

• Using organic fertilizer options

• Allowing for natural leaf decomposition
