The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan is intended to guide the City of Evanston in implementing and advancing a culture of inclusivity for all residents regardless of their ability. This Transition Plan will draw from the City's existing mission of "promoting the highest quality of life for all residents by providing fiscally sound, responsive municipal services and delivering those services equitably, professionally, and with the highest degree of integrity." By undertaking this Transition Plan process, the City will remove barriers which will maximize the talents and contributions of all residents in order to fulfill the City's vision of "creating the most livable City in America."
The Plan focuses on providing access to City programs, services, and activities, parks and facilities to persons with disabilities. By removing potential barriers to such City services, it will be easier for residents with disabilities to participate in the City's cultural and economic growth. As such, the Plan's goal is to establish a City-wide culture of accessibility, which will place ADA access at the forefront of City planning, construction, and policy-making efforts.
