Open House
The Evanston Fire Explorer Post 911 is a youth oriented program directed at helping young adults who have an interest in the fire service. Young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 are invited to become Fire Explorers with the Evanston Fire Department. Our program provides an opportunity for junior high, high school and college students to become familiar with career opportunities available in the fire service. An Open House will take place on Wednesday, January 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fire Headquarters (909 Lake Street, Evanston, IL 60201). More information can also be found on the Explorer webpage.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training -
SPRING 2025
What is CERT?
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of Evanston volunteers who assist the Office of Emergency Management in times of need. In the event of serious man-made or natural disaster, the Office of Emergency Management may call upon CERT Volunteers to help respond. CERT volunteers are also sometimes asked to help support the Office of Emergency Management in non-emergency situations, such as staffing large public events.
CERT volunteers also receive basic training on disaster response, fire safety, and light search and rescue, so that they may be able to help others before the arrival of professional first responders in any situation.
Check back early spring 2025 to register for the next session! CERT training will take place Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. from March 6 - April 17, 2025. The session is FREE and eligible for ages 17 and up. You must be willing to attend all sessions.
