Piven Theatre Workshop is honored to once again be partnering with Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre for a staged reading in honor of Black History Month. On February 6, please join us in the Piven Theatre space for a staged reading of Yellowman, the 2002 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama by Dael Orlandersmith. Yellowman by is a memory play about an African-American woman who dreams of life beyond the confines of her small-town Southern upbringing and the light-skinned man whose fate is tragically intertwined with hers. The play explores the negative associations surrounding male blackness, as well as the effect these racial stereotypes have on black women. It is a story that is both heartwarming and ultimately heartbreaking; a beautifully composed play, worth standing for.
Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive early. Admission is free.
