Experience the meditative sounds of Nepalese singing bowls while sipping fair trade iced tea to help improve your health and well-being. Join us for an afternoon of soothing sounds from the East. Staff from Ten Thousand Villages on Main Street will teach you the basics of playing singing bowls from Nepal. Singing bowls are widely used for music, meditation and relaxation. They have become popular with music therapists and yoga teachers. The bell-like sound is created by rotating a mallet around the outside rim to produce a sustained musical note. Learn about these fair-trade artisans, mainly women, from Nepal who work in remote mountain areas using traditional craft skills. The organization that works with Ten Thousand Villages makes sure that the workers receive medical and education allowances, as well as maternity leave.
