"It's the Great Pumpkin Compost" Collection Event
This fall, community members can rescue their Halloween pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns from withering on the front porch or ending up in the trash by participating in the City's 'It's the Great Pumpkin Compost' collection event. The inaugural event will take place on Saturday, November 5 in the parking lots of the Levy Senior Center and the Morton Civic Center*.
The free 'drive-up, drop-off' event provides residents an opportunity to have their pumpkins composted. Composting is an important waste diversion practice that diverts organic material, including pumpkins, from the landfill.
Plain, clean pumpkins of any size will be accepted, as well as pumpkins painted with acrylic paint. Pumpkins contaminated with candle wax, stickers, or decorations of any type will not be accepted. No other organic material may be dropped off.
Date: Saturday, November 5
Time: 9am-Noon
Location: Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave. & Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
Community members are encouraged to share photos of their jack-o'-lanterns with the City of Evanston on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using #EvPumpkin.
*Those dropping off pumpkins at the Morton Civic Center should enter the public lot at the corner of Asbury Avenue and Simpson Street. The parking lot entrance off of Leonard Place will be blocked.
