The Illinois and Chicago Departments of Public Health are holding meetings to inform members of the community about the concept of crisis standards of care (CSC) so that organizations responsible for planning and implementation and members of the community will understand why and when these guidelines may become necessary and how they will be applied. The goal is to ensure that these guidelines reflect community values and priorities and therefore will be more acceptable to the public if activated in a crisis. This will also raise individual and community awareness about the need to focus on the broader goals of disaster preparedness.
