Watershed Learning

ClarkStBeach_544pxOn Saturday, February 10, from 10 a.m. to noon, join an adult learning community for "Lakefront Learning" to study water, a defining feature of our geography and of our social, economic, political, cultural and spiritual lives.

This session is Keeping Emerging Contaminants Out of the Aquatic Environment: A Prescription for Healthy Ecosystems and Communities. Sarah Zack, the pollution prevention extension specialist for Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, will present information about some of the contaminants that originate in our homes, like pharmaceuticals and microplastics. We’ll learn about the problems with these contaminants, look at how they get into Lake Michigan and local bodies of water, and talk about what we can all do to help keep our environment healthy.

Each free Watershed Learning workshop includes a short talk, discussion, hands-on activity and tea. No registration is necessary – just drop by. Workshops take place at the Arrington Lakefront Lagoon Shelter, Sheridan Road at Church Street, on select Saturdays:

February 10 - IL/IN Seagrant: Pollution
March 10 - Stewardship and Citizen Science
April 14 - Watershed Spirituality and Environmental Justice
May 12 - Biking tour of Evanston Green Infrastructure
