City Furlough Day

Most facilities closed and most programs not in service

  • Date: 11/10/2017  (all day)

Most City of Evanston offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, November 10, 2017, for an unpaid furlough day. This action was part of a comprehensive cost-saving plan approved by the Evanston City Council to help balance the Fiscal Year 2017 budget.

The Morton Civic Center city offices (with the exception of building tenants), recreation centers, and all Evanston Public Library locations will be closed for standard programs and services. The 311 service will be open, as well as the Robert Crown Center, Fleetwood-Jourdain Center and Mason Park preschool/daycare and after-school care.

Critical Police, Fire and Water Plant operations will continue, but all non-essential employees will be on unpaid leave. Refuse and recycling pick-ups will occur as usual. Previously contracted room rentals in community centers will be honored.

Full-time and part-time employees who are not scheduled to work on November 10 will have their hours reduced from their vacation bank. Employees who must work on November 10 will have their hours reduced from their vacation bank or will choose another unpaid day off, depending on their contract.

This is not a parking holiday, so parking fees must be paid.
