The City of Evanston recently received proposals to provide sanitation services for Evanston residents, including residential refuse collection, condominium refuse collection and yard waste / food scrap collection. Proposals were also received to provide a voluntary stand-alone food scrap program for commercial businesses.
Staff is also recommending implementation of a recycling program for multi-family apartment buildings with six units or greater with services performed by Evanston employees. A monthly service charge would need to be created to provide this service.
A review of the Solid Waste Fund will occur, discussing the revenue generated by existing sanitation fees and the expenses needed to provide the sanitation services. Different methods of generating the needed revenue to meet the expenses will also be reviewed.
