The Evanston Police & Fire Foundation will present the 5th annual Police vs. Fire Grill Off, which will be held in the Valli Produce parking lot. Valli Produce is also donating all of the ingredients for this event, including chips and drinks.
Two teams of chefs will create the tastiest burgers in town; rumor has it that both Police and Fire Chiefs wil help cook this year! Last year, over 400 burgers were served and over $1,500 was raised to support the Evanston Police & Fire Foundation.
For a $10 donation, you'll enjoy two tasty burgers, chips and a drink. Don't be late because you really don't want to miss tasting the “Fireman's Fury” and “Evanston's Finest Slider." Everyone votes for their favorite burger to determine which group of first responders are the best cooks!
Sponsors: Hecky's Barbecue and 1590 WCGO.
The Evanston Police & Fire Foundation, in concert with the Evanston Police Department and Evanston Fire Department, identifies needed programs, equipment, and technology. EPFF works to raise funds within the community and to create partnerships with local business, residents, and community members to meet the critical needs of our first responders.
The EPFF supports programs like the Evanston Citizens' Fire Academy, Citizens' Police Academy, Fire Explorers and the new Police Explorers. These programs promote a high degree of understanding among “ordinary citizens” about how the departments work and the men and women who, every day, put their lives on the line each time they go on a call. EPFF also purchases specialized equipment the city's budget cannot accommodate. For example, a new radio system for use in high-rise buildings which would allow first responders to communicate more effectively, has just been approved by the grant committee.
