The Evanston History Center’s (EHC) annual fundraising gala Melody in August* will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 7 pm to 10 pm at the Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood Street in Evanston. Guests will celebrate beneath the late summer moon at the national historic landmark Charles Gates Dawes House, enjoy cocktails and an appetizer buffet, and dance to the music of Arlen Music Productions. A silent auction will also take place; auction items include experiential packages, including dinner and theater tickets, overnight stays, and passes to the BMW Golf Open. Black tie is optional. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online at evanstonhistorycenter.org
RSVPs are requested by August 19. Proceeds will support EHC’s programming and special events. This year’s gala is sponsored by Bradley Investment Center.
*Melody in A was a 1911 musical composition written for piano and violin by Charles Gates Dawes, Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. The Dawes family moved to Evanston in 1895 and lived at 225 Greenwood Street from 1909 to 1957. Melody in A became a #1 hit song when lyrics were added and it was sung by Tommy Edwards under the title, All in the Game. The song is #38 on the Billboard All-time Top 100 Chart.
