Evanston Symphony Orchestra: Shostakovich 5th!

Join the Evanston Symphony Orchestra as they mark the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich’s death. The ESO will play his lyrical and powerful Symphony No. 5, a work in which many listeners hear despair beneath the glorious melodies. The work is paired with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme with cello soloist Christine Lamprea. Opening the concert is a work by Jonathan Bailey Holland, composer and dean at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music: Motor City Dance Mix. It is a vibrant musical collage, in homage to Holland’s home city of Detroit, influenced by classical, hip-hop, jazz, and other musical genres.

The concert will take place on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Pick-Staiger Concert hall. For additional information and ticketing visit the Evanston Symphony Orchestra website.
