The Kwanzaa Festival and Storytelling Event will include local artists and food vendors, a family art and crafts area, a West African Community Drum Circle lead by Evanston’s Tony Garrett, a contemporary West African Dance performance by NAJWA Dance Corps, and a beautiful storytelling presentation of Seven Spools of Thread: A Kwanzaa Story written by Angela Shelf Medearis, narrated by nationally renowned storyteller, Dr. Stephanie Davenport, member of ASE, The Chicago Association of Black Storytellers, and accompanied by West African drumming by Evanston’s Tony Garrett. The entire family will enjoy celebrating the first day of Kwanzaa with other community members.
