This will be a 1 hour book discussion, led by an Evanston Public Library librarian. The book is The Other Wes Moore, a story of two real African American boys with the same name, born blocks apart within a year of each other. Both lost their fathers at a young age. Both grew up in similar neighborhoods and had difficult childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into trouble with the police. How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other is serving a life sentence in prison for felony
murder? In alternating narratives that take readers from heart-wrenching losses to moments of surprising redemption, The Other Wes Moore sets out to answer this question and, in the process, tells the story of a generation of boys trying to find their way in a hostile world. Books will be provided at Levy Center ahead of time. Books will also be available at a variety of locations across town. This event is part of the Evanston Public Library’s Evanston Reads: The Other Wes Moore community-wide reading program. For more information, visit www.epl.org.
