The Evanston Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Fire Department Headquarters, 909 Lake Street.
This event is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 3 to 9. All are welcome to attend this fun-filled annual event.
Planned activities include:
- Children's firefighter challenge
- Police and fire apparatus displays
- Auto extrication
- Specialized rescues
- Kitchen safety demonstration
- Canines
- Side-by-side flashover demonstration
- Fire and life safety education for the entire family
This year, the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week theme is "Learn the Sound of Safety." From beeps to chirps, this year's campaign works to better educate the public about the sounds smoke alarms make, what those sounds mean, and how to respond to them.
All attendees are required to social distance and wear masks during this event. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled by 9 a.m. with an announcement posted on the Fire Department Facebook and Twitter accounts.
