Nationally-recognized author and garden historian Barbara Geiger shares an inside view of the just-completed master restoration plan for the gardens at the Frances Willard House Museum, on Saturday, July 9, 2016. The plan, funded in part by a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant, will bring the grounds back to their 1890s exuberance and Victorian diversity. Learn about what's in store for the future of the grounds at this National Historic Landmark, and pick up tips on how to do a garden restoration. After the program, visitors are welcome to stroll around the grounds on their own. This program is the first in the Willard House @ 150 series marking the 150th birthday of the house. The Willard House was constructed in 1865 and is a true example of a mid-Victorian, neo-gothic board and batten residence. Exterior and interior restoration projects are some of the many ways the birthday is being celebrated and upcoming talks will highlight these projects and plans. The garden restoration program is Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Frances Willard House Museum, 1730 Chicago Avenue, Evanston. Coffee and treats from Hewn Bakery will be served at 9 am; presentation follows at 9:30. Tickets are $20 ($15 for FWHA members).
