Legal Medical Marijuana & Cannabis Prohibition: A Discussion
Medical marijuana is legal in Illinois. Is legal recreational use on its way? The Evanston Public Library will host a discussion ranging from the history of the science and politics around cannabis and its social impacts, right up to a detailed discussion of the recent legal changes around its use, recreational as well as medical. The discussion will take place on Wednesday, August 3, at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room of the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Topics will include the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act, decriminalization at the local and state level, industrial hemp, the future of the push to end cannabis prohibition in Illinois and beyond, as well as the advocacy and policy work involved in making those changes happen.
Event speakers are: Ali Nagib of Illinois NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), and Liz Elliott and Mike Richards of PharmaCannis, Evanston's only medical cannabis provider.
