The Levy Lecture Series is an educational program for residents 55+ years who are passionate about learning. Reservations are required. You can register online, call (847) 448-8250 or stop by the front desk of the Levy Senior Center. All lectures are free and are held in the Linden Room.
History of the Blues: Fruteland Jackson
Fruteland Jackson is an author, storyteller and accomplished musician. A Chicago native, he has been nominated three times for the Blues Music Awards. In 1997 he recieved the Blues Foundation’s “Keeping the Blues Alive” award for his educational work with young people. (He created the “All About the Blues Series” for use in schools.) Mr. Jackson plays acoustic guitar with a focus on pre-war and post-war blues using a variety of styles including ragtime, Piedmont, and Delta. In 2002 he wrote Beginning Delta Blues Guitar (Alfred Publishing). His most recent CD, “Good As Your Last Dollar,” was released in May 2019.
