The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence is organizing a community discussion about the recently-enacted Firearm Restraining Order law. The forum will take place on Thursday, June 20, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Evanston Public Library (Falcon Room - 303), 1703 Orrington Ave.
This potentially life-saving law is a civil court order that allows for individuals to file a restraining order that prohibits a family or household member’s access to firearms, in the event that you believe they are a risk to themselves or to others. This community dialogue will encourage attendees to learn about the law, ICHV's educational outreach campaign, and be a space for community dialogue about gun violence prevention in Illinois. Representatives from ICHV, local law enforcement, legal experts, and elected officials will make up a panel of speakers leading this discussion.
