Jevoid Simmons is an Evanston artist specializing in Afrocentric carvings, paintings and Americana crafts. Jevoid's current project, which is on display at the Morton Civic Center from April 18 to October 18, is a collection of original paintings with accompanying narrative that details his family's departure from rural Alabama in the early 1950s as part of the historic black migration. Also included in the exhibit will be Jevoid's wooden carvings of friends, family, and acquaintances.
The gallery at the Morton Civic Center is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
