"Do We Have a Migration Crisis? Refugee and Asylum Basics"

A discussion with Dr. Galya Ben-Arieh

Community members are invited to the program, "Do We Have a Migration Crisis? Refugee and Asylum Basics," on Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m. It will be held in the large community room at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue.

Gayla Ben-AriehThis discussion with Dr. Galya Ben-Arieh, director of the Center for Forced Migration Studies at the Buffett Institute for Global Studies, Northwestern University, will focus on:

  • U.S. government updates
  • Humanitarian process, procedures, intention and managing obstacles
  • Local community and impact: Chicago and Evanston
  • Personal testimony
  • Community strategy

This program will dispel myths, provide accurate information about refugees and migrants in our community and include refugee voices to highlight the struggles and opportunities within the current climate for refugees.

Participants will gain insight on current and projected challenges in this area, ways to help, and a deeper knowledge of local community and activity related to refugee issues.
