A discussion on participatory budgeting in Evanston will take place on Wed., August 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Morton Civic Center, Room 2402, 2100 Ridge Avenue, Evanston.

Join City Clerk Devon Reid to learn about alternate ways to finance city initiatives that bring residents into the folds of government. UIC Greater Cities Institute’s Thea Crum and Leslie Perkins of Chicago Alderman John Arena’s 45th Ward office will speak on the the participatory budgeting process, what can be done, and what is currently being done in municipalities across Illinois and the country.

Participatory budgeting is a form of government funding that allows residents to democratically decide how municipal finances are spent. In Chicago, it is used on a ward by ward basis to direct infrastructure funds. In Evanston, it can be used for whatever residents may see fit.
