EHC's 'Melody in August' Party

The Evanston History Center’s  “Melody in August”* party will take place on Saturday, August 25, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood Street in Evanston.

The party commemorates the extraordinary year, 1968. Guests will celebrate beneath the late summer moon at the national historic landmark Charles Gates Dawes House, enjoy cocktails and heavy hors d'oeuvres, and dance to the music of Arlen Music Productions. A silent auction will also take place. Party attire with a 1968 flair is recommended. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online at http://evanstonhistorycenter.org. Proceeds will support EHC’s programming and special events.

*“Melody in A” was a 1911 musical composition written for piano and violin by Charles Gates Dawes, Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. The Dawes family moved to Evanston in 1895 and lived at 225 Greenwood Street from 1909 to 1957. “Melody in A” became a #1 hit song when lyrics were added and it was sung by Tommy Edwards under the title, “All in the Game.” The song is #38 on the Billboard All-time Top 100 Chart.
