Neighborhood Meeting - Dodge Ave. Bus Stop Pilot

The City will host a neighborhood meeting to gather input regarding a pilot program to add accessible bus stops along Dodge Avenue between Oakton and Main Streets. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Levy Senior Center (Linden Room), 300 Dodge Ave.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Project information
  • Existing site conditions
  • Preliminary design ideas
  • Open discussion of community ideas

The purpose of the project is to increase accessibility of the bus stops along the Dodge Avenue corridor. The existing bus stops along Dodge Avenue between Oakton and Main Streets are flag stops. Flag stops allow passengers to signal to the bus to stop at any location. The location where a passenger flags the bus to stop is not always safe for the bus to pick up a passenger. Bus drivers may ask the passenger to move toward a safer location or refuse service at a flag stop. Due to a lack of timed stops, routes with flag stops often fall behind schedule and limit the ability of passengers to know when the bus will arrive. The CTA and City propose to eliminate flag stops on Dodge Avenue between Oakton and Main Streets to allow the placement of accessible bus stops. Accessible bus stops allow passengers with limited mobility a safe location to get on the bus. Accessible bus stops also follow a strict schedule and provide predictability of when the bus will arrive.

A map of proposed bus stop locations can be found below. Questions about the Dodge Avenue Bus Stop Pilot project should be directed to Jessica Hyink, transportation & mobility coordinator, at 3-1-1 or 847-448-4311.
