"What happened at Starbucks?" Equity discussion
On May 29, 2018, Starbucks will close the doors of all 8,000 of their stores for the afternoon to offer their 175,000 employees cultural sensitivity training. This follows an April 14th incident where two Black men were arrested at a Starbucks for not purchasing something after being asked to leave. The City of Evanston will use this unprecedented closing of such a large national business to focus attention locally on the issues raised by the incident. On May 29th the City will offer three opportunities for community members to view the video of the incident and have a discussion about ways in which we as a community can stay engaged around difficult issues. Sessions will held in the Parasol Room from 10:30 - 12 noon; 1:00-2:30 & 3:30-5:00 p.m.
