Noyes 2nd Floor Gallery Exhibition Application

The Noyes 2^nd Floor Gallery offers a vibrant space for artists to showcase their work.  Exhibitions typically run for two to four months. The City of Evanston assists in promoting the exhibit and hosts an Opening Reception Party. To be eligible, artists must submit an application (details below). Each September, the Noyes Gallery Selection Committee reviews submissions to choose the exhibits for the upcoming year.

Eligibility

• All artists and nonprofit arts organizations are eligible to apply for gallery space.
• Priority will be given to artists and arts organizations living in or primarily serving Evanston.
• Applicants must be able to provide evidence of commitment, and a high level of production.
• Since the gallery functions primarily as a Public Area and Resident Artist space at the Noyes Arts Center, we have to maintain a balance of art and art that is appropriate. We will use our discretion in determining if the artwork is suitable for the Galleries purposes.

Noyes 2^nd Floor Gallery Application

• Artists and arts organizations must complete a Noyes 2^nd Floor Gallery Application; submit resumes, digital images or work samples, and other relevant material for review. Incomplete applications and outdated materials will not be considered.
• Artists are selected once a year by a selection committee. The selection committee will meet in early September every year.
• Applications for the 2nd floor gallery can be submitted at any time. Once an artist has submitted their application City staff will confirm the application and make them aware of the possible presentation window. The deadline for applying for the 2nd floor gallery is August 31 of the year prior to the gallery shows.
• The selection committee will create the schedule of shows based on criteria that best suits the space.
• Selected artists will be notified of their selection and the period in time they will be able to show their art by the end of October. All shows will be held in the next calendar year.
• Up to 6 artists and 2 alternates will be selected every year.
• Any artist not selected will be notified in writing by the end of October and are welcome to reapply for the next year's shows.
• These guidelines and other factors will be taken into consideration. There should not be an expectation that an exhibit will be chosen simply because it meets these criteria.

Logistical Requirements

• The artist is responsible for getting the work to the gallery, displaying it using the artist’s own materials, and removing the work at the end of the show.
• The artist is responsible for providing the curator with an inventory list of the work to be displayed, as well as any display materials with artist information, statement, and pricing.
• The artist is responsible for insuring any work beyond City of Evanston coverage limit.
•  There are eight grey exhibit walls available for hanging art.
• Artwork must be hung from our cable suspension system; no nails or holes will be allowed directly into the walls. There are eight walls of gray color for exhibition use.
• 2D artwork: The frame should be sturdy and have eyes and wire for hanging.
• 3D artwork: Include display stands, bases, or other mounting devices, as well as any instructions.

Promotion 

• The City of Evanston will promote the exhibit on available City platforms.
• The City of Evanston will host an Opening Reception Party to promote the work and Noyes Cultural Arts Center.
• If an artist wishes to host an additional opening party or a special event to promote the show, the artist may correspond directly with Noyes Program Coordinator, who can outline the rental details. This would be considered a private event outside the Noyes Gallery regular calendar of events and would be subject to various fees.
