Gibbs-Morrison Center

Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center

Located in the hub of Evanston's 5th Ward, the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center provides an inviting venue for Parks and Recreation programming, youth drop-in activities, and rental opportunities.

History

Acquired by the City in 2015,  the Center is named after Mr. Thomas Gibbs and Dr. William Morrison, who were both long-time Evanston residents. Mr. Gibbs owned a gas station on the corner of Church Street and Dodge Avenue, while Dr. Morrison was the owner and pharmacist of Morrison’s Pharmacy at 1823 Church Street.

Mural

The Center showcases a beautiful mural created by Damon Lamar Reed,  and incorporated feedback from the local community and the Evanston Arts Council. Titled "Vision Board," the mural depicts a young couple aspiring to become homeowners, accompanied by the quote, "Where there is no vision, there is no hope."
