Reproductive Rights
In light of the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling by the US Supreme Court and the national fight to protect birthing individuals' rights to privacy and reproductive services, including abortions, the City of Evanston affirms its commitment to these fundamental reproductive health care rights.
City Resolution and Commitment
Mayor Biss and the Evanston City Council adopted resolution 65-R-22 Reaffirming the City's Commitment to the Protection of Fundamental Reproductive Health Care Rights. The resolution supports protecting the fundamental reproductive health care rights reinforced by the State of Illinois Reproductive Health Act (775 ILCS 55).
Abortion is still legal in many states including Illinois, and it's legal to go to a different state to get an abortion. Abortion is NOT banned nationwide. This state-by-state guide has the most up to date information about abortion laws.
The Evanston Health and Human Services Department (HHS) shares in this commitment by maintaining privacy and providing community members with resources, information and education regarding reproductive health care services. In collaboration with Evanston 311, inquiries and requests are managed in a respectful and professional manner while ensuring that the identity of callers are kept private.
