Penny Park Public Meetings Set for August 11 and 18
The City of Evanston together with 2nd Ward'Alderman Peter Braithwaite and the Park and'Recreation Board will host two public engagements regarding planned improvements at'Penny Park, which is located at Lake St. at Ashland Ave. Each meeting will present the same materials, thus residents are'encouraged to attend either as their schedules permit. EPD Minority Representation Ratio Far Exceeds Other Law Enforcement Agencies
The Brookings Institution recently published an article discussing minority under-representation in city and suburban policing.' The article reviewed data compiled by Governing Magazine in August, 2015 which looked at racial and ethnic diversity in large local law enforcement agencies and then did new analysis of secondary-city and suburban jurisdictions with demographic disparities most exceeding those in metro's largest city.' Evanston Township High School Graduate to Compete for Nigeria in 2016 Summer Olympics
Margaret Bamgbose, a 2012 graduate of Evanston Township High School and recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame, is set to compete in Rio de Janeiro representing Nigeria in the 2016 Olympic Games. Bamgbose's parents, Sunday and Afusatu, came to Evanston from Nigeria, granting Margaret dual citizenship. Her time of 52.27 seconds at the Nigerian Olympic Trials on July 8 qualified her to run the 400-meter race on the Nigerian Olympic Team. She'll also compete in the 4x400-meter'

Community Members Invited to Participate in Dodge Avenue Protected Bike Lane Ride July 28
Evanston bicyclists of all ages are invited to join Wheel & Sprocket and Bucephalus Bikes for a tour of the City's new Dodge Avenue Protected Bike Lane on Thursday, July 28, 2016. The free, 4-mile guided ride will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the Church Street and Dodge Avenue Divvy Bike station, traveling south on Dodge Avenue to the Levy Senior Center before returning north to the starting point. City of Evanston to Conduct Crack Sealing on Select Streets Beginning August 1
The City of Evanston will conduct crack sealing of asphalt pavement at locations across the city beginning the week of August 1, 2016. The project is expected to take three to four weeks to complete, weather permitting. The work is expected to seal 240,000 linear feet of asphalt pavement cracks at 19 locations. Northwestern Bike Commuters Score a Victory
Northwestern University competes in the annual Bike Commuter Challenge organized by the Active Transportation Alliance. The event engages Chicago-area workplaces in a friendly competition to commute to work by bike. It is intended to encourage cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly transportation option. Emerson, Ridge, Asbury and Green Bay Corridor Project Update
Construction activities for the Emerson/Ridge/Green Bay Corridor Project will increase significantly in the coming weeks with the addition of more crews by the contractor. To date, crews have completed storm sewer work on the west side of Green Bay Road, from Simpson Street to McCormick Boulevard.
