City to Pick Up Holiday Trees December 27 through January 27
City of Evanston crews will pick up holiday trees beginning Tuesday, December 27, 2016 through Friday, January 27, 2017. The five-week window provides residents with the flexibility to take down their trees when it's convenient. Trees will be picked up on the same day of the week as residents' normal refuse and recycling collection. All trees should be placed on the parkway, in between the street and the sidewalk. City Awarded $100,000 Chi-Cal Rivers Fund Grant to Enhance Migratory Bird Habitat
The City of Evanston has been awarded a $100,000 grant by the Chi-Cal Rivers Fund to create and enhance migratory bird habitat along the North Shore Channel in the Ladd Arboretum and four nearby Evanston parks. 2017 Evanston Special Event Permit Applications Due January 31
Groups and organizations that wish to hold special events in the City of Evanston in 2017 will need to submit a Special Event Permit Application by Tuesday, January 31, 2017. The application is available at cityofevanston.org/specialeventpermit. A non-refundable $150 application fee must be submitted along with the initial Special Event Permit Application for all non-City sponsored events. Why Doesn't the City Plow Sidewalks and Alleys?
Why doesn't the City of Evanston plow sidewalks and alleys? There probably isn't one answer to this question. This has been City policy for many years that pre-dates all of us currently in City management. Many of our neighbor cities, including Skokie, do plow sidewalks and alleys, while Chicago does not. Inaugural "Rethink Your Drink" Campaign a Great Success
The inaugural "Rethink Your Drink" campaign, a strategic initiative led by the City of Evanston and NorthShore University HealthSystem to decrease the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), was met with great success. After providing healthier vending machine options and limiting options for SSBs at five Evanston sites, all locations recorded a decrease in SSB purchases and several had increased water purchases.
