Firefighter/Paramedic Application (please click on the above link to apply)

Base Salary Range: $53,506-$89,216

$25 non-refundable application fee must be paid by 11:59PM on September 30, 2015 by clicking here.  Applications without the required application fee will not be considered.

All required documentation must be attached to the application before it is submitted.  Once you submit the application, you will not be able to attach any supporting documentation.  Delivered, emailed, or faxed copies of documentation will not be accepted.  Applications without supporting documentation will not be considered.

Posting Period: September 1-30, 2015

Tutorial Sessions (optional): Saturday, October 24, 2015 (AM and PM sessions will be available)

Written Exam: Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Evanston Township High School

Candidates will be notified via email by October 16, 2015, of their eligibility to sit for the Written Examination and will be provided additional details for the tutorial sessions.

Minimum Qualifications include:

• U.S. Citizenship.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.  Willingness to obtain a Class A Non-Commercial Driver’s License within 18 months of employment.
• Willingness to obtain a Hazardous Material Operations Certification within 18 months of employment.
• Willingness to obtain a Paramedic License within 18 months of employment.
• Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card and Ladder Climb certification issued within one year of November 7, 2015.
• Must be between 20 and 34 years of age at the time of employment.  If 35 years of age or over, must have previous experience as a Firefighter/Paramedic.  If between the ages of 35 and 40, must have turned 35 while serving in reserve duty or active duty (with honorable discharge) in the military.

Preferred Qualifications include:

• Resident of Evanston, Illinois at the time of application.
• Completion of fire cadet program.
• Paramedic license.
• Graduation from fire academy.
• One year of active duty in and honorable discharge from or reserve duty in the military.

Other required steps include an oral interview, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical screening, background investigation, and final certification by the Civil Service Commission.

Police Officer Application

Base Salary Range: $59,822-$87,093

Candidates who passed the POWER Test on August 30, 2015 will be notified of their eligibility and must take the Written Exam on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue, Evanston, IL.

Minimum Qualifications include:

• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be between 21 and 35 years of age as of September 12, 2015, unless exempt by state statute.
• High school diploma or GED and completion of 60 hours of college credit.

Preferred Qualifications include:

• Resident of Evanston, Illinois at the time of application.
• One year of active duty in and honorable discharge from the US Armed Forces.
• Current employment as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer.

Other required steps include an oral interview, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical screening, background investigation, and final certification by the Civil Service Commission.

Human Resources is the central coordinating point for the filling of all full-time, permanent part-time, temporary, and seasonal positions.  Human Resources also provides assistance and guidance to the operating departments and employees in all areas of employment including:

  • labor relations
  • safety

Chosen candidates will be required to provide proof of licenses, certifications, and education required for this position.  Candidates will also be subject to qualifying pre-employment processes, including medical examination, drug/alcohol screen, employment verification, and criminal background check.
