About Evanston

Medical Reserve Corps

The first response to any disaster is a local response.

ABOUT MRC

The national MRC was formed in 2002, in cooperation with the White House’s USA Freedom medical reserve corps logoCorps, as one of the charter programs of Citizen Corps. Pre-identifying, training and organizing medical and public health professionals to strengthen their communities through volunteerism is at the core of the MRC concept.

MRC volunteers offer their expertise throughout the year by supporting local public health initiatives, such as immunization and prevention activities. When an emergency community need occurs, MRC volunteers can work in coordination with existing local emergency response programs.

The Evanston Medical Reserve Corps has been developed to enhance the City of Evanston’s emergency preparedness by organizing a group of volunteers who can be rapidly mobilized to assist during a public health emergency. The Evanston Medical Reserve Corps is under the Evanston Citizens Corps Council, which is a branch of the City of Evanston Office of Emergency Preparedness.

DID YOU KNOW? The population of Evanston is approximately 74,239 but the estimated day-time population is 220,000. This concentration of people within the area creates the possibility of a major mass casualty situation in the event of a major disaster.
