Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre is a municipally-supported theatre program. FJT features productions highlighting the Black experience.
The Evanston Children’s Theatre program serves as a training ground for
Evanston youth. Senior adults age 55+ are also cast in some shows. All performances are held at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Avenue. The photo at left shows the cast from Charlotte's Web.
Performances of Twinderella by Charlie Lovett will take place Nov. 20-22, 2009. Shows are at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $6.00. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 847.448-8250 or at the door.
What's Twinderella? We've all heard the story of Cinderella a thousand times, but we've never heard about Bob, her long lost twin brother! Living in the same kingdom with different wicked stepfamilies, Cinderella's cruel stepmother and evil stepsisters make her rotate tires and polish bowling trophies while Bob's evil stepfather and cruel stepbrothers force him to make dried herb wreaths and organize their sock drawers. This play will delight audiences with humor for all ages!
The Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes Street, is home to the renowned Piven Theatre Workshop. Piven Theatre has provided classes from beginning children (4th grade and higher) to professional adults for over 30 years. Many famous actors have been through the Piven program, including the entire Cusak family. For more information on workshops please call 847.866.6597.
Along with providing acting workshops, the Piven Theatre puts on many performances each year at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center. The City of Evanston is also home to numerous student productions thanks to Northwestern University. Northwestern’s critically acclaimed theatre program provides performing arts opportunities every week. The Northwestern program produces more than eight main stage shows a year, along with countless student productions.
The school also puts on a Summer Theatre Festival. One of Northwestern’s most famous productions is called the Dolphin Show, which is the nation’s largest student-produced musical. Famous alumni of the show include David Schwimmer, Ann Margret, Tony Randall and Warren Beatty.
