Ridge Avenue Project Brochure with Detours
The long-awaited rehabilitation of Ridge Avenue is finally here. This 2.1 mile, $6.38 million project between Howard and Clark Streets includes the installation of a new roadway surface, curbing and a new relief sewer.
May update: The curb, driveways, courtesy and carriage walks and damaged intermediate sidewalk sections have been replaced from Reba to Main.
All of the roadway concrete base pavement patching has been completed. The leveling binder and binder have been placed from Howard to Main including the northbound intersections.
The single northbound lane from Howard to Main will be switched to the new east side pavement after rush hour traffic on Tuesday, May 27 with the posted detour for southbound Ridge remaining the same.
The contractor’s crews will then perform much of the same operations that occurred up until now, but on the west side of Ridge. For the first two weeks in June, those operations will include tree root pruning to protect the existing trees, milling off the old asphalt, curb and gutter removal, driveway and sidewalk removal, and concrete patching. The completion date of July 15 for this west side work is on schedule. Please continue to exercise caution if you must travel on Ridge during construction operations.
Through 5 a.m. Thursday, July 31
The southbound Ridge Avenue traffic is detoured through Greenleaf Street to Asbury Avenue to Howard Street, then east on Howard Street to Ridge.
Southbound CTA buses #210 Central/Ridge and #206 Evanston Circulator buses will be rerouted off Greenleaf and down Asbury Avenue. Customers can board and exit buses on any corner on Asbury between Greenleaf and Howard Streets.
Buses rerouted: #201 Central/Ridge and #206 Evanston Circulator
The new storm sewer installation has started at Lee Street working south and terminating at Cleveland Street within the construction zone.
Updates will continue throughout the project.
