WEST NILE VIRUS (WNV) INFORMATION

WNV Surveillance

In cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), the City of Evanston is requesting that residents with waste tires contact the Environmental Health Division at (847) 866-2948 for details about IEPA’s Consensual Removal Agreement. Tires serve as habitats for mosquitoes during summer months; spring removal will keep these pests from breeding in the summer.

May 1st is the official beginning of West Nile Virus season. The best way to address West Nile Virus is prevention. Make sure to empty containers storing rainwater, clean out gutters, and remove abandoned tires. Keep yourself safe by wearing long sleeves and pants during the hours of dusk and dawn. Please call the Health and Human Services Department at (847) 866-2949 with any questions.

The Evanston Health Department can instruct you on how to pick up dead birds safely; call (847) 866-2948.

Relevant West Nile Virus updates will be posted on the homepage of the City of Evanston website.
