2009 VEHICLE LICENSE STICKER -- ON SALE NOV. 3, 2008
City of Evanston Ordinance 10-8 (see the City Code) requires all vehicles registered to an Evanston address to pay an annual wheel tax and properly display a valid City vehicle sticker. Every resident, business, firm or corporation must purchase a vehicle sticker for each vehicle registered with the Secretary of State, State of Illinois, to an address within the corporate limits of the City of Evanston.

Vehicle stickers expire every year. 2009 Stickers must be purchased & displayed by January 12, 2009. A penalty of 50% of the fee will be added to all applications received /postmarked after January 12. (A passenger car vehicle sticker will cost $113 rather than $75.)
If your plates are registered on or after July 1st, 2009, you will pay only 50% of the applicable fee when applying for a 2009 vehicle sticker. ($37.50 rather than $75.)

The sticker must be displayed on the lower left-hand corner of the windshield. (Driver's side.) To avoid misplacing or losing the sticker, apply to your windshield when received. Weather does not affect this type of sticker.
Penalty
The penalty for not obtaining or displaying a vehicle sticker is $50 plus a $20 additional penalty if not paid within 10 days.
Extended hours
Regular business hours for the Collector's Office is Mondays - Fridays from 8:30am to 5pm.
The office will be open extended hours for sticker purchases:
Saturdays, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Both the Collector’s Office and Parking Services are open on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and till 7 p.m. In the evenings of Monday through Thursday, Jan. 5-9, 2009.
Senior Citizen Discount
Seniors ages 65 and older and fulfilling income requirements are eligible for a 50% discount on their 2009 vehicle stickers by obtaining a Senior Citizen Discount Card. Seniors can apply for the Senior Citizen Discount Card and purchase their stickers on the following dates: Saturdays, Nov. 8, Dec. 13, 2008, and Jan. 3, 2009.
These seniors must have filed their 2007 income taxes returns either singly with an income of $30,000 or under, or jointly with an income of $50,000 or under. Seniors applying for the Discount Card must bring their 2007 tax returns on these dates for income verification. Seniors who obtained discount cards in previous years may use them to purchase their 2009 stickers. Questions regarding this discount should be directed to the Evanston Commission on Aging at 847.866.2919.
Transferring a Sticker
If you replace a car at any time during the year, a transfer of your City Vehicle License sticker must be made by application to the City Collector, located on the first floor of 2100 Ridge Ave. Stickers are not transferable from one person to another. There is a fee of $10.00 to do a transfer. Original receipt or sticker must be presented for a transfer.
