Rental Registration Information

On March 24, 2008, the City of Evanston City Council adopted Ordinance 42-O-08, which requires the annual registration of residential rental property. The ordinance specifically applies to all rental single family homes, rental condominiums and all multifamily rental buildings. The 2008 Rental Registration statement was mailed out the week of November 17, 2008.

If you are an owner who resides in a single family home for which you received a registration statement and invoice, please return your Annual Rental Registration form with the Owner Information section completed. Please include a copy of your most recent water utility bill. We will then verify the information you provide and change our records accordingly. This should prevent you from receiving statements in the future.

If you own a two dwelling unit building that is currently being utilized as a single family home or where each unit is owned and occupied separately as an individual residence, please download the Affidavit of Owner Occupancy form from this link. Please complete the affidavit and the Annual Rental Registration form with the Owner Information section completed. In addition we require a copy of your most recent electric and gas utility bills for each unit clearly showing the utilities are billed to the owners of record at the specific unit addresses for which you received registration statements. Please return this information to us using one of the following methods. Insert your completed affidavit, owner’s information statement and supporting documents in the green, self-addressed envelope. Place the required U.S. postage on the envelope and return it to our office. Alternatively fax the affidavit, statement and the supporting documentation to Property Standards at 847.448.8026. If you have the ability to send us the information online via email please, send it with all required attachments to mcupp@cityofevanston.org.

Please understand that we are receiving a high volume of correspondence regarding this issue. Our staff will be returning all phone calls and emails as expeditiously as possible.
